CTE Contractors were appointed to design and install a new EV charging infrastructure for Perrys Vauxhall Barnsley to support the growing demand for electric vehicle sales and servicing.

The project involved installing dual 7.2kW Rolec pedestal EV charge points, connected via a new dedicated EV distribution board and full compliance with BS7671 wiring regulations.

The Challenge

As Perrys expanded their electric vehicle range, the dealership required reliable and compliant charging infrastructure to meet both customer and operational needs.

Existing electrical systems had limited capacity for additional load.
Safety and regulatory compliance under BS7671 (including O-PEN protection) were essential.
Chargers needed to operate efficiently without overloading the existing supply.
The installation had to be durable and weather-resistant for long-term outdoor use.

The goal was to create a system that provided safe, efficient, and scalable EV charging while maintaining full compliance and minimising disruption to the busy dealership.

EV Charger Installation

Installed Rolec dual 7.2kW pedestal units suitable for commercial use, offering simultaneous charging for multiple vehicles.
Chargers were mounted in customer and operational areas for maximum convenience.

Electrical Infrastructure

A dedicated EV distribution board was installed, complete with an O-PEN protective device, ensuring full compliance with BS7671:2018 (Amendment 2).
All cabling was installed in steel wire armoured (SWA) cable for durability and external protection.
Cable runs were mounted neatly on galvanised cable tray, maintaining a professional and maintainable finish.
The system was fitted with a load management controller, designed to monitor total power usage and prevent overload conditions during peak demand.

Testing & Commissioning

The full system was tested, inspected, and certified in accordance with current IET Wiring Regulations.
Chargers were fully commissioned and integrated into Perrys’ operational workflow, with demonstration and user guidance provided on completion.
